| Un auteur de jeu, que je ne dénoncerai pas, m’a dit un jour que « Puerto Rico has all the fun of accounting ». Je n’étais pas entièrement d’accord, ayant mis Puerto Rico dans la ludothèque idéale, mais en même temps j’ai fort bien compris ce qu’il voulait dire. Puerto Rico est en effet l’un de ces jeux où il faut gérer avec soin ses ressources, optimiser ses placements, calculer la rentabilité prévisionnelle de chaque investissement possible, et l’on pourrait sans doute y jouer sous Excel. L'arcgétype en est sans doute The Scepter of Zavandor, le jeu basé sur l'improbable hypothèse selon laquelle la magie blanche s'apparente à la comptabilité analytique. Je m’étonne moi-même d’apprécier de tels jeux alors que je n’ai jamais eu le courage de me mettre aux frais réels. Peut-être est-ce parce qu’un jeu ne dure que quelques heures et que, si cela ressemble à du boulot pour certains, cela ne ressemble heureusement pas à mon boulot. A game author (please don’t ask me who) told me one day that Puerto Rico “has all the fun of accounting”. I don’t really agree, since I added Puerto Rico to the ideal game library, but I can see the point. Puerto Rico is one of these games where you have to carefully manage your resources, to optimize your investments, to check the projected return of every action, and it probably could be played on an Excel sheet. The archetyp of this kind of games is probably The Scepter of Zavandor, a game based on the surprising hupothesis that withe magic and provisional accounting are quite the same thing. I surprise myself with enjoying many such games, but it may be these games last only a few hours and because, if they feel like work, they don’t feel like my work.
